Some people just enjoy watching the annual Triple Crown races with the Kentucky Derby, Preakness, and Belmont Stakes. Others, like Virginia Smith, have held a deep passion for horses their entire life. Continue reading to see how BrainyApps helped turn her dream into reality with the Bed and Bale app.
Virginia Smith has been riding horses for 38 years. She grew up on the British Columbia, Canada coastal mountain range, but now calls Pemberton BC her home.
Smith’s love for horses runs deep. Growing up her parents would not allow her to own a horse, so for 3 years she would sneak away on the weekends to a nearby barn and work eight hours a day to get a half an hour riding lesson.
From the age of 15 on, she did everything she could to remain in the horse industry including working as a cattle ranch hand, trail riding wrangler, trainer, breeder and started many horses.
She also competed at barrel racing, cattle penning, and even tried her hand at roping.
Smith had spent 30 years in the western horse industry when she decided to make the switch to the English discipline.
She decided to go with three day eventing because it had three stages: dressage, show jumping, and cross country.
She figured that competing in all three would be the best way to find out what discipline she really wanted to pursue.
She soon realized that she fell in love with all three phases and continued on eventing for eight years.
Two years ago she was doing very well on her gelding BC Braith, and was starting to look into the future to see if she could compete internationally.
She thought perhaps she might travel down to California for some events.
The thought of traveling long-distances with her horse became a hurdle in her mind.
How would I do it? Where I would settle for the evenings? What would I do if anything happened to my horses?
How the Bed and Bale App Works
Unfortunately, those hurdles weren’t crossed as she had an accident during competition and separated her shoulder.
She never ended up traveling to California.
However, Smith didn’t let that adversity stop her. It was just a minor set back along her journey.
Even though her competitive riding took a break – the issues of traveling with her horse never left her mind.
In our recent interview with her, she explained how her amazing app idea came to her in a dream:
Last year I was serving tables and feeling like I didn’t really have a goal in life. I very much believe in the law of attraction and I asked the universe one evening (Sept. 5, 2017) to send me a purpose. I went to sleep that night and I had a dream that I created an app to help people traveling with their horses. I saw it very clear and when I woke up the next morning I thought I had actually done it! Then I got up and started moving around and realized I had not. I spent a couple hours being bummed out about it, and then I dawned on me – I should really do it!”
Taking this dream as a sign, Smith started to do some research and decided to take some action.
She soon realized there wasn’t anything like her idea on the market and started to research app development companies.
It was during that time she came across a page with reviews for BrainyApps.
The reviews were so good that I decided to pick up the phone that afternoon, and I spoke with a very lovely fellow named Andrew. He was super pumped about my idea and said he would run it by some of his colleagues. The next day I got a call back saying they wanted to take the project on, so I pulled money from anywhere I could to get it started, and the ball started rolling quickly from there.
In talking with Smith, she described the process of working with BrainyApps:
The process was surprisingly easy…I was surprised at how thorough the team was, not only supplying me with an app, but a website and press release as well. The coding team was very diligent in getting all the bugs out, and changing anything I needed to streamline the app and make it seamless.”
Smith concluded saying, “Overall the experience with BrainyApps has been first class and I would recommend them to anyone!”
Smith and the BrainyApps team are currently developing the Android version of the app as a result of the success with the iOS version.
